Biography

Bassonist Orsolya Juhasz was born in Budapest in 1980.  She began her musical studies at the  State School of Music Eger "Ferenc Farkas" (Hungary), continuing later at the Conservatory of Music "Bela Bartok" in Miskolc.  In 1999 she joined the class of professors Janota Gabor, Tibor Fülemile and György Olajos at the Academy of Music "Ferenc Liszt" in Budapest, where she earned a Master's degree with distinction in "Bassoon Performance and Teaching."  In 2004 she moved to Lugano, Switzerland to begin studies at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana under Gabor Meszaros, receiving a Performer's Certificate with honors in 2007 and a Soloist Diploma in 2008.  In conjunction with her studies in Switzerland, Ms. Juhasz participated in the course "Instituto Internacional de Musica de Camera de Madrid" in 2008, working with prominent soloists including Klaus Thunemann, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Jacques Zoon, and Radovan Vlatkovic.
Ms. Juhasz has been a prize winner in several national and international competitions, including the "International Academic Competition for Bassoon" in Lodz (Poland), the International Competition for Bassoon in Chieri (Italy), and the Prague Spring Competition.  She has appeared as soloist with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Ventoscala of Budapest, and the Orchestra Solti of Budapest, performing the concerti from C.M. Weber, J.N. Hummel, A. Jolivet and W. A. Mozart.  In addition, she is a founding member of the chamber music groups Quattro Venti wind quartet and quintets Iberian Ensemble, Pentaerophonia and Dionysus Quintet with whom she has made recordings and given concerts  in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary and Germany.
From 2002-2004, Ms. Juhasz was principal bassoonist of the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra and in 2009, took over the same position with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, working under the baton of celebrated conductors Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Omer Meir Wellber.  She has also performed with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestra "I Pomeriggi Musicali", Hungarian Radio Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and Basler Festival Orchester, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
